Street Change: The Search for Melbourne's Best Busker

The Street Change competition will see an array of the city’s buskers battle it out in QV, Melbourne in support of homeless aid. Each of the ten talented musicians will perform onstage, with the winner to be decided by crowd donations to their favourite act.

The performer that generates the most money will earn the proud title of ‘Melbourne’s Best Busker’.

It is an initiative of the Rotary Club of Melbourne Park, co-presented by QV, Melbourne in 2012, aiming to celebrate and leverage one of the most vibrant aspects of Melbourne’s culture - busking. The fundamental goal of the event is to raise awareness and funds for the confronting issue of homelessness in Melbourne. All proceeds go to HomeGround Services, helping get people into houses and integrating long-term support services to keep the homeless off the streets.

The inaugural Street Change event in October 2010 showcased outstanding talent, including pianist and singer Daniel Shaw who had three EPs under his belt by the tender age of ten years old, and winner Jenny Biddle who has gone on to perform at the Tamworth Country Music Festival this month. This year’s event on Thursday, 23rd Febuary 2012 will once again showcase extraordinary talent straight off the very streets of Melbourne, attracting a crowd ready to vote with their wallets and contribute to a good cause as part of the 2012 QV Summer Concert Series.

The Rotary Club of Melbourne Park is one of Australia’s youngest member Rotary Clubs. They are a dynamic and determined group of young professionals passionate about Melbourne and making a difference in our local community and beyond, driven by the achievements and dependability of Rotary International.
